I can't stop watching it. Half the solar system has come to life: everything rotates and shines. The rotation isn't quite right yet; I need to correct and add some formulas. But it's reliable and simple. Everything runs on mathematics rather than animations. And it rotates in a way that doesn't require bothering the server every second. The client takes the current information and handles the rotation itself from there.
Transitions to other screens and interfaces now work. Specifically, from the start screen you can go to colony management or the solar system. Things have started rotating in the colony too: day and night, the Sun and Moon, and its own illumination. Depending on the star system, there will be different colors, cycles, numbers of moons and suns, and overall light levels...
A lot of time goes into figuring out the code. Most documentation is for version 4, and these small differences consume so much time. You do everything exactly as in the example, and it still doesn't work, no matter what you try... At least it helps me learn it more thoroughly.
Right now I'm mainly tackling conceptual issues: handling the mathematics of cosmic scales, and developing algorithms and mechanisms for a simplified simulation. We'll hardly need a complete gravitational model, but a simplified Newtonian one should do, and so on.
The next step is adding drag and drop to the colony so that construction can take place.
How do you think the colony should be laid out: squares or hexes?
P.S. I adjusted the splash screen a little. I replaced the placeholder with a little ship, moved the Moon, and reworked the lighting, which was the most important change. The client now weighs 70 MB... We'll optimize it. )
